TERENCE PANG-YEN DUNN

TERENCE DUNN is an expert instructor of Chinese martial, yogic, and healing arts with more than 30 years of training and a pioneer in popularizing the practice of T'ai Chi Ch'uan, Chi Kung in the western world through nationwide seminars, video, television, and multi-media publications. Educated at Yale College and the Harvard Business School, Terry is a gifted teacher, author, and filmmaker, who expresses a trans-cultural, ecumenical vision in his works: the national best-selling T'ai Chi For Health video series, the Chi Kung For Health video series, the forthcoming documentary "Masters of Chinese Fighting Arts" with historian Robert W. Smith, and the Zen-Bear® animated television series for children. In the area of public safety, Terry produced the life-saving police training program, Universal System of Arrest & Control for Law Enforcement in 1993.

 

Training

Dunn's extensive training in Chinese holistic health practices has spanned more than 20 years in t'ai chi ch'uan, 16 years of chi-kung and meditation, and more than 22 continuous years in three forms of Chinese boxing (kung fu). He has studied under some of the most renown Chinese martial art masters of this century: Master Abraham Liu in Yang style T'ai Chi Ch'uan, Master York Why Loo in the Six Harmonies/Eight Methods system , Grand- master Ark Yue Wong of the Southern Sil Lum Five Animal Style, Master Share K. Lew of the Tao Tan Pai (Taoist Elixir Method) Kung Fu, and Master Chan Ching-Kai in Yang family t'ai chi ch'uan and the Six Harmonies/Eight Methods. Certified since 1983, Dunn is an instructor in the Sil Lum Five Animals, Taoist Elixir Method , and the Eight-Sections-Combined kung fu systems.

Terry has been teaching martial arts in Los Angeles for more than 18 years, and conducts Tai Chi for Health and Chi Kung for Health seminars nationwide. He creatively applies his rich experience in these arts of self-defense to help others further their wellness, longevity, self-understanding and empowerment. He has taught Tai Chi and Chi Kung classes to outpatients and staff at Cedars Sinai Medical Center since 1998, and is the first Tai Chi instructor to work on acute-care post-operative patients in a major medical institution (in Cedars-Sinai's Cardio-thoracic Surgery Group). In 2000 and 2001, Terry trained the World Champion Los Angeles Lakers in Tai Chi and Kung Fu as a regular warm-up method to their training regimen.
